Assembling the Face Frame

Lots of Clamps

Like the carcass, the face frame is also fastened together using glue and pocket hole screws. This picture is of the backside of one of the face frames. In the lower left side of the picture you can see the elongated holes for the pocket screws.

In each corner you can also see right angle jigs, these are clamped to the face frame as it is assembled so that all the joints are square and the whole face frame ends up square. The clamps and right angle jigs are left in place until the glue dries.

Finished Look

This picture is of the two face frames for the book case sections, one stacked upon the other, they are 3 foot wide and 7 foot 1 inch tall.

Close Up

This picture is a close up view of the upper corner of a face frame, looking from the top down. The very top edge will have the crown molding attached. You can also see the fluting in the stile.

Entertainment Section Face Frame

This picture was taken after Shelley and I assembled the face frame for the entertainment section. This section is 4 foot wide and so it does overhang the edges of my assembly table. Assembling something larger than the table had it’s own unique challenges but it was fun to tackle.
