Assembling the Adjustable Shelves

There are a number of adjustable shelves that are not permanently attached to the bookcase, but which sit atop pegs that are placed in each side of the book case so the spacing and number of shelves in each unit can be adjusted according to the size of books placed on each shelf.

In order to have a decorative edge for these adjustable shelves, and to add strength, a piece of maple is glued to the front side. Because there are no nails holding this piece in place, these unique 3-way clamps are used to hold the wood firmly in place while the glue sets.
